JUNE NEWSLETTER 2017
Planning and booking forms are now out for the summer holiday club. Please contact Angela if you have not received them via Parentmail and she will send them across to you. Please ensure you complete and return them as soon as possible to guarantee the days you want. Pre-school children who are going to school in September can move into Holiday Club from 1st August if required. Come and see Carol or Courtney in the office for more details if this is something you are still thinking about.
If your children are going to either Maypole or Joydens Wood Schools don’t forget we run our After School Club until 6pm. If you would like to know a little more about our After School, please come and see Carol or Courtney.
As the weather is getting warmer can we remind you all to bring in sun hats and sun cream please. Also can you try and name your child’s sun cream and sun hat as we wouldn’t want to lose them thank you for your cooperation.
Thank you all for your support at our Toddle Waddle – it was lovely to see so many of you there. If you have any more sponsor money, please could you bring it in as soon as possible, to enable us to have a final amount to give to this very worthwhile charity.
We are sad to say goodbye to Wendy from After School at the end of the month – we wish her well in any new adventures she may pursue. Rochelle will be joining us in After School as soon as possible.

STAFF DEVELOPMENT DAY
Our staff development day has been booked for Friday 8th September 2017. We will be closed all day, so please can you ensure that you make other childcare arrangements for this day. The management committee and trustees do understand and fully appreciate the difficulty this may cause some of you; however, they feel the positives for a development day far outweigh any negatives. They feel and I am sure you will agree that staff development is an integral part of Acorns maintaining its standards as a first class nursery. They also feel although we received a ‘good’ at our last Ofsted inspection, we cannot rest on our laurels and that to strive towards ‘outstanding’ there needs to be a commitment to continually train and develop all our practitioners, to not only consolidate what they already know, but to allow them the opportunity to move forward. The training we are providing this year is for the digital learning journals that we will moving across to in September and that will replace the children’s ‘Learning Journey’ folders. This training requires the input of external parties who are only available on week days and the staff already do a lot of their mandatory training, eg 1st Aid, Child Protection, Food Safety on Saturdays. If you have any questions regarding our development day, please come and see Carol or Courtney. Thank You.
We would like to invite you to our AGM which this year will – PROVISONALLY - be on Tuesday 19th September at 8pm. Please come and support us and find out what we have planned for the coming year. Drinks and nibbles are provided after the AGM - this is the ideal opportunity to get to know some fellow parents and talk to the staff in a more relaxed and informal way.
Don’t forget the Baby Room would still like donations of the following for their heuristic play. The resources do not need to cost a fortune. You may have some or all of these items already at home. We need:
- Woollen pompoms
- Bags of fresh herbs
- Tubes (inside of foil, cling film, kitchen rolls, pringle tubes, etc.)
- Strips of materials of different textures
- Jar tops
- Hair rollers of different sizes
- Chains of various shapes and sizes
- Variety of tins (with safe tops) (golden syrup tins, biscuit tins, etc)
If you have anything that you would like to donate to us, please could you bring them in and hand them into the office – we will make sure the babies benefit from your generosity – thank you.
Thank you for your continued support.
Carol, Courtney & Angela
